About This Website
Sandy Canyon, Pineville, November, 1954
We were born and raised in the Alexandria-Pineville area. As a young boy, I fished in Buhlow Lake during its early years. I learned to water ski in the lake. I "walked across the bottom" of the lake once when it was drained.
My Cub Scout troop explored nearby "Sandy Canyon" and climbed the hills at Fort Buhlow. I was part of motor boat brigade that met Roy Rogers in the Red River.
My father was friends with Carl and Doug Rylee, along with U.J. and Terry Rabalais. I remember visiting the garage on Rapides Avenue in Alexandria where both cars and powerboats were serviced, and tuned.
Today, my connections with Alexandria and Pineville remain strong. This site is designed to be a guide for visitors to the lake and the many attractions surrounding it. We also hope it is a resource for area residents as well.
We have no connection with the City of Pineville or other governmental body which has control over Buhlow Lake. We are merely interested in helping promote the lake!
